Everyone is working on the workforce problem. Employers. Educators. Veteran-serving organizations. Funders. Government. And yet, critical roles remain unfilled. Talent remains underutilized. Billions of dollars continue to flow into strategic industries facing workforce shortages. This week at Georgetown University, leaders from aerospace, defense, financial services, technology, manufacturing, workforce development, and the veteran community came together for the Future Force Industry Roundtable. We came into the room thinking we were discussing veteran employment. We left, realizing we were discussing workforce infrastructure. Across industries, the same challenge surfaced again and again: The problem is not talent. The problem is alignment. Talent supply. Employer demand. Capital investment. Industry need. Each exists. What doesn't exist, at least not at scale, is the connective layer between them. The conversation moved beyond recruiting. We discussed skills over titles. Retention as much as hiring. Industry pathways instead of job fairs and postings. And the reality that every organization is doing something, but too little of it is connected. Future Force was created to address that challenge. Not as another program. Not as another membership. Not as another conversation. But as an employer-led effort to align talent, industry, education, and workforce systems around measurable outcomes and long-term economic mobility. The talent exists. The demand exists. The capital is moving. What has been absent is the system that connects them.
