As part of the PIRI REDD project, community members recently elected a Governance Committee that will play a key role in overseeing project activities, representing stakeholders, and strengthening accountability throughout implementation. Transparent governance structures help ensure that decisions are made openly, benefits are distributed fairly, and community voices remain at the center of the project. For us, governance is not a box to tick for certification standards. It is the mechanism that helps transform a conservation project into a long-term partnership built on trust. Today we celebrate the individuals who have stepped forward to take on that responsibility and thank everyone who participated in the process. Strong forests need strong community participation & trust.
