Juan Sanchez, our Agronomic engineer plays a crucial role in the answer to this question. Through workshops and communications with the farmers in our project, he's come to understand something fundamental: to reduce deforestation we must first understand what's actually driving it. And it's easy to point the finger at cattle ranching or plantations but the answer is more complex. The real questions is how are these productive systems carried out.ย In our project area they are extensive systems with very low productivity, yet still there is a constant pressure to expand into forest areas. Thatโs why his vision is not to stop these activities, but to directly address these elements with concrete solutions and strong governance: โข ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ โ improving productivity per hectare while reducing the need to expand into the forest โข ๐๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐๐จ โ transform traditional agriculture into more resilient models, integrating production with forest cover โข ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฌ โ provides a productive alternative that intensifies output without requiring more land These are not large-scale interventions but they target the critical elements in our project area that cause people to start deforesting One thing is clear to him: sustainability is not about doing less, itโs about doing better, in the right places.
