#Onthisday in 2002, Ndiaye Maissa Codou was born in #Dakar, #Senegal. At 16 he began his trip to Europe. Like so many African boys, he found himself in #Libya's internment camps, waiting for a very expensive ride on a rubber dinghy towards #Lampedusa. In 2009, halfway between Ndiaye’s birth and his trip to Italy, a new team was founded in the city of Naples. Codou then arrived in Napoli, where his football skills were soon noticed. It was Miriam Peruzzi, talent scout and African football expert for Afro Napoli - a team created as a part of a #solidarity, #antiracism project. The team was called #AfroNapoli, (recently @NapoliUnited), and it started to play in the Italian 9th league and at this time had reached the “Eccellenza” championship (Italian 5th league). Its symbol is a green lion. Codou started his training with Afro Napoli, but he couldn’t play because of legal restrictions against immigrants. With the help of the “lions”, he started to go to school, and applied for a residence permit. Many teams were interested in him, but only #ASRoma succesfully managed the bureaucracy, and many legal interventions. He is now a regular player of the U19 #ASRoma team. Do you think rules to let migrants play football in the European country where they live should be eased?
