Still drilling – or already milling? In many production facilities, large components are still drilled the traditional way. Often simply because it has always been done like that. But milling offers some very practical advantages that make everyday machining noticeably easier.   Why milling often makes more sense than drilling: 🔹 No residual material at the bottom of the hole: the contour is fully and cleanly machined 🔹 Lower cutting forces: especially helpful on thin‑walled or sensitive areas 🔹 Significantly shorter machining time for shallow holes 🔹 Roughing and finishing with one single tool: less effort, fewer risks 🔹 Fewer tool changes: different diameters can be produced with one tool 🔹 And something that’s often overlooked: the high dynamics of our machines. Faster feed rates, smooth transitions, stable processes. This makes a real difference in daily production. On our FOOKE 5‑axis gantry milling machines, these operations can be done in a single setup. That means reproducible results, fewer interruptions, and noticeably higher efficiency. The video shows how switching from drilling to milling simplifies the machining of large components, and speeds up several steps along the way. 👉 If you’re curious how this could impact your own machining process, feel free to reach out.   #fooke #portalfräsmaschine #5axis #gantrymilling #cncmachining #manufacturing #precisionengineering #aerospace #defense #automotive #innovation #germanengineering #largecomponentmachining #millingmachine #machiningefficiency
