Originally a panel, the procurement policy session of SEQ Food Summit Policy Day has shifted since the original program was published. It's now a 45-minute collaborative workshop, taking everyone in the room from big picture thinking to ideas and commitments we can actually act on. Drawing on her work on ‘co-designing a regional food procurement strategy for Brisbane 2032 Olympics and beyond,’ Dr Kiah Smith will synthesise what's already been said and ideated about the Olympic opportunity. Leah Galvin, CF, Madonna Thomson and Frank Dinneen will each give their take on where the real openings lie, and different ways to pilot policies, capacity and reliability before then. Then, the bulk of the session is guided action planning for across the food system. Participants split into groups around focus areas like who needs to be at the table for these procurement changes and how to get them there, and how to test and demonstrate better procurement models. This is where siloes get broken down and real cross-sector ideas can come to life.
