The Florida Bar Tax Section Nominating Committee has nominated Brian Malec, a shareholder with Dean Mead in Orlando, to serve as the section’s 2027–2028 chair-elect. A Florida Bar board-certified attorney in Wills, Trusts and Estates, Malec focuses his practice on estate and succession planning, probate, and trust administration. He earned both his J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida - Fredric G. Levin College of Law, and is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). An active Tax Section leader for more than a decade, Malec has served on the Executive Council and Directors’ Committee since 2013 and has held numerous leadership positions, including section treasurer. He also serves on the Executive Council of The Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. If elected, Malec will serve as chair-elect during the 2027–2028 Bar year before assuming the office of chair for 2028–2029. Pursuant to the Tax Section bylaws, petitions nominating additional candidates for chair-elect may be submitted by any 10 section members and must be filed with Section Secretary Jeanette Moffa by September 15 for inclusion on a written ballot. If only one candidate is nominated, that nominee will become chair-elect.
