Industry and policy in dialogue in China – with Flender at the table Last week, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche visited China with a high-level delegation — and our China CFO Geertje Richter was invited to join a roundtable at the German Center Beijing, led by Dr. Beate Baron, Head of the Industry Department at the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy). Geertje shared what three decades in China have taught us: that localization isn't a strategy — it's a mindset. Our Tianjin site has grown into Flender's largest production facility for gear units and generators outside of Germany, spanning 255,000 m² and employing over 2,000 people. The conversation covered the realities of today's market: shifting dynamics, competitive markets, and a pace of development that demands agility — including market-specific R&D that covers local requirements. Our approach and advice: understanding your local markets remains one of the clearest maps to where the opportunities lie. A view, as it turned out, that also Minister Reiche shared herself. For globally active companies like Flender, dialogue across borders — with peers, with customers, and with policymakers — is how you stay ahead.
