The second episode of Newcastle University Business School’s podcast The North East Edge is out now where Prof. Charlie Hoult and I speak to Henry Kippin, Chief Executive of the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Andy Haldane, former Chief Economist at the Bank of England. It is great to hear their thoughts and insights into why the North East has so often had the ingredients for success but struggled to achieve sustained economic lift‑off. I share their optimism for the future, especially with the opportunities presented by devolution – we need to all get behind a positive, future-facing narrative and make the most of the possibilities.
