International School of Physics “Enrico Fermi” This physics summer school in Varenna, Italy, is one of the most significant cultural activities of the Italian Physical Society (SIF) and was founded in 1953 by its then President, Prof. Giovanni Polvani. Fermi gave 16 lectures in Varenna on “Pions and Nucleons” from 16 July to 6 August 1954. After his passing on 28 November 1954, President Polvani announced that the School would be named after Enrico Fermi. I’ve taken part in this year’s course on Quantum Dynamics and Communication, covering topics such as quantum sensing through NV centers, quantum communication with Gaussian and non-Gaussian light, germanium spin qubits, integrated photonics, fluids of light, single-photon-based quantum computing, theory of open quantum systems and exciton quantum dynamics. A heartfelt thank you to the Italian Physical Society (SIF) and to the School’s directors, Prof. Marino Marsi and Prof. Rinaldo Trotta, along with Scientific Secretary Eva Renouf, for organizing such a rich and inspiring programme. Thanks as well to all the lecturers who shared their knowledge with us: Philippe Grangier, Fabio Sciarrino, Pascale Senellart, Georgios Katsaros, Jean-François Roch, Nuno Silva, Enrico Perfetto, and Dvira Segal. It’s been an incredible opportunity to meet young and passionate physicists from all over the world, bonding over physics, inspired by the majestic view of Lake Como!
