“What could AI mean for blind and vision impaired people”? Technology has been unlocking opportunity for blind and vision impaired people for decades. At Vis-Ability 2026, Sir Robin Millar CBE reflected on a lifetime of change and transformation – and how AI is opening up more possibilities. From accessing and processing huge volumes of information to navigating complex tasks and making workplaces more inclusive, AI is enabling people to approach opportunities that may previously have felt out of reach. But technology alone isn’t enough. Changing perceptions about what blind and vision impaired people can achieve is essential. The goal shouldn’t be to see disabled people as extraordinary exceptions: it should be to recognise the potential that exists in everyone. Accessibility is not about creating “superpowers”. It is about removing barriers, creating equal opportunities, and recognising the skills, resilience and expertise that disabled people bring every day.
