According to the Aspen Institute, nearly 1 in 5 Americans report losing money to an online scam—and older adults are disproportionately impacted. Adults 60+ reported $7.7 billion in losses in 2025, nearly four times higher than the year prior. Recently, WXYZ-TV Reporter, Darren Cunningham moderated an expert panel with our Head of Fraud Prevention, Kris Edwards, joined by LaToya Hall, SAFE Program Director at the Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology, and Detroit FBI Special Agent Bryan Drake at Matrix Human Services Center in Detroit for an engaging community conversation with seniors on how to protect their money from scammers. The discussion focused on recognizing today’s most common scams and the steps to take when something doesn’t feel right.
