API-Driven Operational Change — How ferag.skyfall Adapted to a New Picking Model A global footwear brand operating a high-volume distribution center needed to transition a product category from pre-packed inventory to fully on-demand picking. The challenge was not the picking process itself. It was the data layer: two independent systems a warehouse management system and the ferag.skyfall pouch sorting platform needed to exchange SKU data and task IDs in real time, across a live operation, without disrupting throughput. The ferag.skyfall software team developed a custom WMS middleware to connect both systems, enabling direct data exchange and real-time task allocation. Order flow management was reconfigured to support the new on-demand process alongside existing workflows. The transition was completed while the operation remained live. Key outcome: a fundamental change to the operational model was implemented with minimal software modification on the ferag side enabled entirely by the open API architecture of ferag.skyfall. For system integrators evaluating pouch sorting technology for omnichannel or mixed-distribution environments, this illustrates a practical reality: API design quality determines how quickly and safely a system can adapt to operational change not just at go-live, but across the full operational lifetime. If you are evaluating whether a pouch sorting architecture could fit your next project, ferag.go gives you a first system concept and budget orientation in minutes, before any engineering commitment. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/enRqV8SN #intralogistics #warehouseautomation #systemintegration #ferag #skyfall #omnichannel
