Why Engineering Capability Should Influence Your Automation Strategy Before selecting an automation system, most organisations ask: What technology do we need? It is a reasonable question. But it may not be the first one. The question that should come first is: How much of this system does our business want to own, both now and in five years? Two distribution centres with similar order volumes, SKU profiles and growth plans can require completely different automation strategies. Not because the technology is different, but because the organisations are. One business may want a fully managed solution, with one partner responsible for design, delivery, integration and long-term support. Another may have internal engineering and software teams that want to remain closely involved integrating, adapting and optimising the system without depending on a supplier for every future change. Neither approach is automatically better. The mistake is assuming that every organisation needs the same delivery model and supplier relationship. As fulfillment operations become more complex, the distinction between an automation supplier and a technology partner matters more than ever. Has your organisation deliberately considered how much ownership and control it wants to retain? 🔗https://lnkd.in/d3-J6eqt #WarehouseAutomation #Intralogistics #FulfilmentAutomation #SupplyChainStrategy #AutomationStrategy #SupplyChain
