Over the past months, Iโve completed two executive programmes that nicely connect two worlds Iโm deeply passionate about: ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฃ&๐. โ๏ธ Strategic Management for Executives (St. Gallen Business School) โ๏ธ Strategy Execution (Harvard Business School) What stood out for me once again: Strategy is not only about defining direction โ itโs about ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ, ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ. This is where FP&A and Finance play a critical role. Not as a reporting function, but as a ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต-๐ฎ๐น๐๐ถ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐. Strong finance teams ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐บ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐. They create transparency on whether the organization is ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ณ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด - ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐. They also provide the ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐-๐ฏ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด leadership teams need when trade-offs must be evaluated. For me, FP&A is at its best when it actively supports strategy execution - by connecting ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ and ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ผ๐๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐.
