Laura remembers the smell of breakfast drifting upstairs from her grandma’s kitchen. Pancakes, pasta nights, and grocery store “games” to make $20 stretch for the week are some of the memories that shaped her childhood in Northern Illinois. When her family needed extra support, they turned to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, part of the Feeding America network, for fresh food and groceries to help get through difficult weeks. Today, Laura is a restaurant owner with Chick-fil-A Restaurants, giving back to her community through food donations and carrying forward the support that helped her family years ago. More than 14 million children in the U.S. live in households facing hunger. Stories like Laura’s are a reminder that access to food can change the course of someone’s future. ❤️
