To all my friends from the KL Bar, As the AGM is next Thursday, I wish to proudly endorse a few people. These are individuals who have genuinely and personally did all the work, to make for a greater Bar. Many a times, people run for committee just for connections, but are reluctant to actually do the requisite work required once elected. In choosing a candidate, true service for past comm members can be ascertained, by actually perusing reports of the past 5 to 8 years, scrutinising activities completed by a particular candidate, during those years of service. For context, I committed quite a fair bit of my time and was fortunate to Co-Chair different committees for several years. The reality is that there was and still is so much actual work to be done. For practice committees especially (such as the Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee), when there are queries as mundane as e-review, members of the KLBar look to the comm members. Multiple issues are raised on a daily basis - the comm members who are elected then, uses up their minimal time they have left, without any pay, to address the issue. Whilst I have not been requested to post anything on linkedin, it will be remiss to not especially call out the few people that I have worked with during my term who has done so much work in creating activities and planned for a better KLBar. Nimalan Devaraja – for the years of service in multiple practice committees, which represents the committee with the most work, actively engaging with not only the learned friends from the KLBar but multiple different bodies. I salute and admire your dedication to the KLBar. Thank you for being the Honorary Secretary in the past 2 years. It is not easy to draft/vet every circular that is issued out, whilst still meeting Court deadlines. No one else deserves to be a Chairperson more than you. Alvin Oh for heading the Chairman position and years of active service as a comm member and the Honorary Secretary for the 2 preceding years; for your calm and level-headed approach in any issue. You are a great leader and have my vote. Shugan Raman for being meticulous and always stepping up to save the day in all events conducted (even if it is not your committee). When we did the 60 table KL Bar Dinner 3 years back, you carefully navigated every aspect of the night and single handedly made it a success. The KLBar is lucky to have you as a committee member. Raj & Brenda Rangithan – to your dedication in ensuring young lawyers always have a place to rely on and for building camaraderie between members. Grateful for your time. I can personally vouch for these members and will not hesitate to say that these members will toil hard for us; their hearts and mind are all in the right place – to do good for us. To the past committee, my immense gratitude for the time spent in the past year. Anyway, I hope to catch up with all my learned friends during the KL Bar AGM on 27th February (Thursday)! 😊
