πŸš€ I’m thrilled to share a major milestone in my academic journey at the University of Khartoum! On July 8th, I successfully discussed and defended my undergraduate thesis, marking the culmination of years of hard work, growth, and perseverance. My project focused on enhancing the aerodynamic performance of H-type Darrieus vertical-axis wind turbine using blade morphing techniques and advanced CFD simulations. πŸ” Key technical contributions include: βœ… A mathematical model to predict and test the suggested morphing behavior across the turbine cycle. βœ… The first generalized UDF framework that supports not one but various morphing strategies and can be further generalized to other airfoil series. βœ… Dynamic blade thickness control from NACA0024 to NACA0012 in real-time, timed specifically to the rotor's azimuthal position. βœ… CFD simulations of a thickness blade morphing applied to a rotating turbine, validated by the mathematical model. πŸ“ˆImpact: While already achieving measurable efficiency gains and aerodynamic characteristics enhancements, this approach's true potential lies ahead-advanced morphing strategies could unlock improvements of 50% or more, fundamentally transforming turbine performance. I’m incredibly grateful to my supervisor, Dr. Eltayeb Eljack whose guidance and mentorship were truly invaluable. His mentorship has been nothing short of transformational - a guiding force that has fundamentally shaped not only this work but my very understanding of academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. A special shoutout to my partner, Mohamed Mansour it’s been an incredible journey working alongside you! I also want to extend my gratitude to our seniors, Eng. Rand Elbashir, Eng. Mohamed Amar and Eng. Ahmed Ismail for their unwavering support and assistance throughout this journey. Here’s to the future of adaptive wind technology and the incredible potential of engineering innovation! πŸ’‘ #CFD #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #VAWTs #MechanicalEngineering #Innovation #ThesisDefense #ANSYS #MorphingBlades
