Spain vs Argentina | A Tactical Battle One of Argentina’s biggest attacking weapons throughout the tournament has been their efficiency from crosses. Several of their goals have come from creating separation inside the box before attacking the delivery. But Spain presents a completely different challenge. What has impressed me most isn’t just their ability to clear crosses, but how they defend before the ball even arrives. 🔹 Constant scanning of both the ball and the opponent. 🔹 Body orientation that allows defenders to see the game and the threat. 🔹 Continuous contact with the attacker using their arms to maintain reference. 🔹 Clear communication to pass on runners and avoid free headers. The objective isn’t simply to win the header. The objective is to prevent the striker from making contact with the ball in the first place. Sometimes the best defending happens before the cross is delivered.
