š New Publication Alert | Thought Leadership from Fair Transitions Lab We are delighted to celebrate the latest publication of Fair Transitions Lab founding member and Senior Research Fellow for International Cultural Heritage Law, Kathleen Tantuico, who joins an interdisciplinary team of Southeast Asian archaeologists, anthropologists, and heritage specialists in a newly published article in the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology (Scopus-indexed). š "Best Practices for Scientific Collaboration and Ethical Considerations When Working with Human Remains in Southeast Asia" explores the ethical, legal, and collaborative challenges surrounding research involving human remains across the region. Notably, this article is among the first region-wide collaborative efforts of its kind in Southeast Asia to examine ethical practices and scientific collaboration in work involving human remains. Drawing from the lived experiences of Southeast Asian scholars, the study calls for culturally informed, equitable, and locally grounded approaches to research, while addressing longstanding challenges arising from colonial legacies, unequal power relations, and extractive research practices. At Fair Transitions Lab, we examine how institutions, communities, and governance systems can navigate transitions in an era marked by climate change, technological disruption, and rapid socio-economic transformation. As societies adapt to profound change, ensuring that research, innovation, and knowledge production remain ethical, inclusive, and responsive to local contexts becomes increasingly important. This publication speaks directly to these concerns by demonstrating how fair and equitable transitions must also extend to scientific practice, heritage governance, and the stewardship of the past. The article highlights the importance of culturally informed ethical frameworks, meaningful community engagement, and more just models of international collaboration, principles that are essential for building resilient and inclusive futures. Congratulations to all the authors on this important contribution to ethical and inclusive scholarship.
