Expertise France is strengthening its cooperation with Guyana in the health sector through the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Health as part of the HealthNext project, funded by the European Commission (DG INTPA, €3.9 million, 2026–2028). This partnership forms part of Guyana’s strategy to restructure its healthcare system and position itself as a regional medical hub in the Caribbean. Implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and in coordination with several European partners (including the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union Delegation, BioPark Charleroi, the Donor and Transplantation Institute in Spain and the Central Project Management Agency in Lithuania), HealthNext focuses on three complementary areas: ▶️ Strengthening specialist care: developing training programmes in oncology, establishing hospital and university partnerships, and setting up a national framework for organ donation and transplantation; ▶️ Management of biomedical equipment: support for governance, regulation and maintenance of equipment, as well as the strengthening of technical skills; ▶️ Structuring of research: support in defining a national research strategy and developing cooperation with European institutions. Through this project, Expertise France is drawing on its expertise in pharmaceutical regulation, institutional strengthening and the structuring of health systems, in line with the priorities of the Team Europe Initiative MAV+ and the #GlobalGateway strategy.
