62% of organizations are testing AI agents, while only 23% have implemented even one at scale. (McKinsey, State of AI) The disparity between these two figures often doesn’t stem from the agent itself, but rather from the underlying infrastructure. Before integrating an agent into a production workflow, three conditions must be met: 1. The data must have consistent meanings across different systems. An agent interpreting a field that has three different definitions in three systems can lead to confident, but incorrect, decisions—executed at machine speed before anyone realizes. 2. There needs to be a monitoring framework that clarifies the agent's decisions and rationale. Agents typically fail quietly; without this, you’ll hear about issues from customers before the dashboard alerts you. 3. Access for non-human identities must be appropriately governed. The access permissions originally designed for humans need to be adapted for an agent's requirements. If you're being asked to "add an agent" this quarter, focus on these three first. Which one is the most developed in your estate, and which one is missing completely? #ExpertExtend #AIAgents #DataPlatform #DataStrategy
