The Netherlands has a new Talent Strategy, adopted on 10 July. It sets out four domains where the country wants to attract international talent: ▪️ Digitalisation and AI ▪️ Security and resilience ▪️ Energy and climate technology ▪️ Life sciences and biotechnology These are areas where the Netherlands holds a strong position in innovation and research, and where it wants to strengthen its strategic autonomy. On migration, the strategy takes a two-sided approach. 🔸 Targeted attraction of international knowledge and skills, with choices made about where talent is needed most 🔸 Reduced dependence on what the strategy calls low-productivity labour migration The detail is still to come. A targeted strategy for attracting international talent is one of the pieces the cabinet will work out over the coming months. A progress update on the full Talent Strategy is due at the end of 2026.
