Bringing research, practice, and teaching into closer dialogue - that is the ambition behind the Academy of WING - Wissenschaft für innovative und nachhaltige Geflügelhaltung. Together, we at EW Group invited students to spend a day looking inside three of our companies in Cuxhaven. At LOHMANN BREEDERS GMBH, the focus was on animal breeding with global reach. The students gained insight into R&D, into the work on animal health and into the current handling of Avian Influenza, which is putting particular pressure on international poultry breeding and where breeding and veterinary questions converge directly. At Vaxxinova, autogenous vaccines took centre stage: a field in which diagnostics, production, and veterinary practice are closely interlinked. From the pathogen isolated on-farm through to the finished vaccine, it became clear just how precisely the work is tailored here. At LDG Laboratory Diagnostics Germany GmbH, modern laboratory diagnostics became tangible. An accredited laboratory with a focus on poultry health, combining poultry diagnostics and hygiene testing and closely embedded in veterinary herd health management. An event we would gladly repeat!
