If you're an enablement leader who doesn't report to the CRO, don't  take the job. Robby Halford, VP of Go-to-Market Performance at Momentive Software,  has spent a decade building enablement programs after starting his  career as a middle school English teacher. On this episode of  Go-To-Masters, he makes the case that enablement only works when it has  a direct seat at the CRO's table and unpacks why most ramp programs,  comp plans, and CSM enablement strategies are quietly broken. A few things from the conversation worth sitting with: - Enablement is not at the kids table. We are not getting served  dinner. The function only works when it's in the room as decisions  are being made, not when the package lands two days before launch. - Most ramp programs are just bad instructional design. Bringing  people into a room for a week of PowerPoints isn't ramp. Robby pays  his reps to learn for a full month - guaranteed variable, no pressure  to chase deals, just absorb and practice. - A-sellers don't make good managers. B-sellers do. They follow  process. A-sellers have a knack and a gift that doesn't always  translate to managing other people.
