The Electric Vehicle Council has been clear: if we want more Australians driving electric, we need to make charging easier, faster and more accessible. Two major state announcements this week are moving the dial on EV adoption in Australia - with a strong focus on charging reform and electricity as a transport fuel at a time of ongoing fuel price pressure. From the perspective of the Electric Vehicle Council, this is the kind of practical leadership needed to turn growing EV interest into real uptake. Victoria, under the leadership of Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio MP, has announced a comprehensive reform package to accelerate EV charging rollout including: • EV charging at affordable rates • Connecting new EV chargers: faster, cheaper, more transparent • Removing barriers to kerbside EV charging • Slashing power and fuel bills with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) These reforms go directly to the system settings that determine how quickly and affordably charging infrastructure can scale. Jenny Aitchison MP, responding to rising fuel price pressure and surging public interest in EVs. Key priorities include: • Expanding charging access, especially in regional areas • Supporting fleet electrification, including heavy vehicles • Building the workforce needed to deliver the transition Together, these announcements show EVs are now firmly an infrastructure and energy affordability issue - not just a vehicle choice.
