The EV transition only works if the industry moves together and that’s what the Electric Vehicle Council is here to do. Bring the key players into one room, align on what matters, and get on with it. That’s why we're thrilled to welcome our newest member: Hyundai Motor Company Australia. Hyundai is Australia’s fifth-largest car brand, with EVs jumping from 3% to 20% of their total sales. In March alone, EV orders surged 355% — from 228 in February to 1,037. New supply is arriving from May to meet that demand. In conversations with Hyundai Motor Company Australia, they emphasised the urgent need for greater government investment in widespread, safe and easy-to-use EV charging infrastructure — an area where Australia has the potential to lead globally. They also noted that once drivers switch to a Hyundai EV, they rarely return to petrol, diesel or hybrid vehicles, underscoring the importance of removing barriers to ownership. Even still, convenient charging remains a big hurdle to adoption. We know the cars work. Now it's about enabling the greater ecosystem, and the Electric Vehicle Council is best-placed to advocate for real change in support of positive policy settings and investment needed to drive change. Australia needs 5 million EVs by 2035. We only get there if the companies shaping the market are pulling in the same direction. That’s the role of the EVC — and why this matters. It's great to have Hyundai backing the transition. https://www.hyundai.com/au Scott Nargar Bill Thomas Bryanna Fisers Julie Delvecchio Aman Gaur Alina Dini, Ph.D. Bjorn (BJ) Siem Umair Afzal Cameron Rimington Mark Stephens Jessop Tiedeken #electricvehicles #EVtransition #EVCmembers #hyundai #cleantech #ioniq #hyundaiev
