Breaking news and a major milestone for Australia’s EV future! Hyundai Motor Company Australia and StarCharge have successfully completed Australia’s first Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) discharge using the ISO 15118-20 communication standard. The milestone pairs a Hyundai IONIQ 9 with the StarCharge Halo 7.4 kW bidirectional DC charger, demonstrating the progress being made towards a future where EVs can do more than move people — they can support homes, businesses and the electricity grid. Using the ISO 15118-20 standard provides the secure, interoperable foundation needed to scale bidirectional charging technologies, including Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) applications. Congratulations to our members Hyundai Motor Company Australia and StarCharge on this important achievement and for helping to build the standards-based pathway needed for Australia’s next phase of electrification. As EV adoption accelerates, innovations like V2G will play an important role in unlocking the full value of electric vehicles — not only as a transport solution, but as an integral part of our future energy system.
