Orthopedics in urgent care….is it really that big of a hurdle? One of the biggest mistakes I see in urgent care orthopedics? Thinking great MSK care starts with imaging. It doesn’t. It starts with: 👉 Understanding anatomy 👉 Understanding biomechanics 👉 Taking a great history 👉 Performing a purposeful exam ⸻ The patient will often tell you the diagnosis if you know how to listen. The exam will often confirm it if you know what you’re looking for. 🩻 X-rays, ultrasound, and MRIs are tools. They are not substitutes for clinical reasoning. ⸻ As PAs and NPs, we don’t need to memorize every orthopedic diagnosis. We need to understand the why behind what we’re seeing.
