🟣 Can bottom-up cultural hubs achieve both artistic and energy independence? Jurányi Produkciós Közösségi Inkubátorház, one of Budapest's best-known independent theatres and cultural centres, transformed a 6,700-square-metre century-old former school into a thriving home for more than 60 arts and civic organisations. Today, it serves as a unique ecosystem where independent theatre companies, cultural initiatives, NGOs and community organisations share space, resources and infrastructure under one roof. The complex is managed by FÜGE, an umbrella organisation providing a permanent sanctuary for over 60 independent performing arts groups. Building on this culture of cooperation, Jurányi has extended its collaborative model to energy through a pioneering community energy project. By partnering with Magyar Természetvédők Szövetsége - Friends of the Earth Hungary and Közösségi Energia Szolgáltató – KESZ Nonprofit Kft. / CESCO - Community Energy Service Company to install 132 solar panels, Jurányi is proving that bottom-up cultural and civic hubs can achieve a high degree of both artistic and energy independence. ⚡ The article in Cooperative City explores the transformation an empty school into a sustainable creative engine and how the building’s new energy model is redefining the future of urban communities.
