Thin aluminium foil, shock-compressed with 500,000x the atmospheric pressure. Then, just before the shock wave reaches the back side of the foil, an ultrashort X-ray pulse takes a snapshot of the electron behavior in the material. The experiment reveals: in warm dense aluminium, electrons behave differently than scientists expected. ⚛️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dq8s8WZ6 Thomas Preston, Dmitrii Bespalov, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), Universität Rostock
