The EU is updating AI rules to improve predictability and enable companies to innovate and compete globally, while keeping real safeguards in place.   Parliament adopted its position on the simplification (“omnibus”) proposal to amend the Artificial Intelligence Act.    Here are the key changes for businesses proposed by Parliament:   • fixed compliance dates to work towards; • extension of support measures to help small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) as they grow to small mid-cap enterprises (SMCs); • possibility to reduce overlap between AI rules and sector-specific EU product safety rules (medical devices, toys, radio equipment, etc.) MEPs also want clear boundaries for certain high-risk and harmful uses of AI, including:   • banning AI tools that create fake intimate images of real people without consent; • allowing companies to process personal data to detect and fix bias in AI systems so AI does not treat some people worse than others. But only when strictly necessary and with safeguards in place. What’s next? Negotiations with EU countries are now underway to finalise the law. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eJbSKjSQ
