Cats and dogs aren’t toys or products, they’re family 🐾 Our dogs and cats deserve a safe, healthy life and new EU rules are a major step forward to ensuring this is the case for our furry friends. That’s why Parliament and the Council have agreed on the first-ever EU-wide rules to tackle cat and dog abuse and improve their welfare. This includes: • Mandatory microchipping and registration to ensure traceability • Ban on inbreeding practices that harm their health • Stronger rules against illegal trade and deceptive sales • Protection against cruel treatment, including harmful equipment and practices • Stricter controls on imports to prevent loopholes and exploitation Nearly 44% of European households are home to pets. These laws will protect millions of animals from suffering and ensure responsible care across the EU. Because every cat and dog deserves dignity, safety, and respect.
