Can Europe build a competitive, resilient, and autonomous battery industry? As energy security concerns grow and global energy prices remain volatile, Europe is looking at new solutions to strengthen its battery ecosystem. Among them, sodium batteries are emerging as a promising solution to support the energy transition. At our Consultative Commission on Industrial Change debate’s on the future of the European battery industry, we discussed: 🔋 the potential of sodium battery technologies; 🔋 how to scale up European manufacturing capacity; 🔋 how to strengthen the battery value chain; 🔋 the organisation of Europe’s battery ecosystem. In our work on the European Commission’s Battery Booster Strategy, we have called for a strengthened battery value chain, stronger investment, support for next-generation technologies, and a competitive system that meets social and environmental standards.
