Meta is doing very little to prevent minors under 13 from using Instagram and Facebook. Their own general conditions indicate their services are not intended for minors under 13. For this reason, we've found Meta in breach of the Digital Services Act. Roughly 10-12% of children under 13 are accessing Instagram and/or Facebook in the EU, and the current measures in place do not adequately prevent them from accessing their services. Moreover, Meta seems to have disregarded readily available scientific evidence indicating that younger children are more vulnerable to potential harms caused by services, like Facebook and Instagram. If our preliminarily findings are confirmed, we may issue a decision that can trigger a fine of up to 6% of Meta's total annual turnover. ℹ️link.europa.eu/yPBWgY
