A major milestone for community energy in Romania! 🇷🇴 Romania has opened its first €170 million call for local governments to develop energy communities across six counties in Just Transition regions — an important step that follows recent legislation removing key barriers to setting up community energy projects. Together, these developments create new opportunities for citizens and local communities to produce renewable energy in ways that deliver local benefits, lower bills, and greater energy security. This progress reflects years of work by our local partners (Greenpeace Romania, Coaliția Energie Comunitară, InfoClima.ro), who have been advancing community energy from many angles — from policy expertise to support for citizens and local authorities, coalition‑building, and strategic communications & media outreach. They form an ecosystem that not only helped make these developments possible but is now well‑placed to turn them into real opportunities for communities across Romania. At the European Climate Foundation, we’re glad to have played a supporting role in helping this network grow and work together. This is a promising moment for Romania’s energy transition, and we’re excited to see what comes next. A huge thank you to everyone involved — a real example of network impact in action. 💪
