Ukrainian drones struck the Orenburg gas processing plant and the adjacent helium plant overnight on 24 June, more than 1,200 km from the line of contact. Local residents reported at least three impacts in the industrial zone. NASA fire-detection satellites and footage shared by locals recorded several active fires. The two sites form one complex, and its output runs straight into Russia's war. The gas plant makes sulfur for explosives and black powder. The helium plant supplies helium for liquid-fuel rocket engines and guidance systems, and ethane for solid rocket fuel. It is Russia's only helium producer—a fixture of its military-industrial base, not just a Gazprom revenue line. The governor of Orenburg Oblast called it a massive drone attack and reported no casualties. Airports in Orenburg, Orsk, and Yasny suspended flights.
