Our first ☀️✈️ Summer #FlashBriefing of 2026 shows a stable first week of June for European air traffic: gently up vs 2025 (⬆️0.7%) on 34,459 daily flights, with punctuality up📈 & delays down📉 despite ongoing Middle East crisis impacts. Crisis impacts continued to affect traffic distribution in Week 23 (1-7 June 2026) resulting in: 📉lower air traffic in Bulgaria 🇧🇬 Hungary 🇭🇺 Romania 🇷🇴 & Türkiye 🇹🇷 📈higher air traffic in Albania 🇦🇱 Croatia 🇭🇷 Cyprus 🇨🇾 Greece 🇬🇷 Montenegro 🇲🇪 North Macedonia 🇲🇰 Serbia 🇷🇸 & Slovenia 🇸🇮 coupled with continuous traffic growth in South-West Europe. 👉 The vast majority of air navigation service providers (#ANSPs) are delivering according to their planned Network Operations Plan (#NOP) capacity commitments 👏 & the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (#NM) continues to work closely with all #ANSPs to keep en-route air traffic flow management (#ATFM) delays down. In response to the first strong weather phenomena⛈️ of the year, the updated capacity & weather-based operations (#CWBO) procedures & related scenarios have been successfully applied, with around 300K minutes of en-route #ATFM delay now saved this year in total. Other key stats in Week 23: ✈️ 34,459 average daily flights, ⬆️1.7% vs W22, ⬆️0.7% vs 2025 ⏰76% arrival punctuality, ⬇️0.8% vs W22 & ⬆️0.4% vs 2025 ⚠️2.6 mins/flight #ATFM delay (⬆️1% vs W22, ⬇️1% vs 2025) – split between en-route (2.0 mins) & #airport (0.6 mins) ⚡41,599 flights delayed by #ATFM restrictions (5,943 a day, 17% of all flights). 🔥network hot spots: France 🇫🇷 generated 27% of en-route delays (of which 9.4% attributed to Reims, 5.5% Marseille & 5% Brest area control centres (#ACCs), mainly owing to capacity issues, staff shortages & transition issues with 4-FLIGHT, DSNA's new collaborative #ATFM system, Spain 🇪🇸 24% (of which 13.7% Barcelona, 4% Sevilla & 5.1% Madrid #ACCs, reflecting capacity, staffing & 📈 high traffic growth) & Greece 🇬🇷 14% (of which 9.4% Athens #ACC & the remainder to Makedonia #ACC, the result of capacity, staffing & demand related to the Middle East crisis).
