How has Point Merge evolved over the past 20 years, and what comes next? These were among the topics discussed at the Point Merge Stakeholder Event held at #EIH the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub. The event took place on 3-4 June 2026 and was organised by Avinor, AirNav Ireland and EUROCONTROL, bringing together a wide range of operational stakeholders from around Europe and beyond. We heard real-world insights from: 🛬 Avinor / Oslo Airport 🛬 AirNav Ireland, Aer Lingus and Ryanair / Dublin Airport 🛬 NAV PORTUGAL / Lisbon Airport 🛬 DECEA - Departamento de Controle do Espaço Aéreo Brazil / São Paulo Airport 🗣️ We also discussed how to continue to 💡 innovate, combine Point Merge with other operational concepts and further evolve it to address existing and future challenges. In addition, just before the event, we organised a hands-on Point Merge familiarisation session on our air traffic control #ATC ✈️ simulator for a group of participants, allowing them to experience first-hand how aircraft are sequenced using the method. #PointMerge, the recognised global standard for arrival sequencing, was developed 20 years ago at the EIH, with Oslo 🇳🇴 & Dublin 🇮🇪 the first to implement it 15 & 14 years ago respectively. Today, Point Merge is a global success story, adopted at 60+ airports worldwide 🌍 Thanks to all the attendees and presenters for their active participation & valuable insights!
