There’s a #WindOfInnovation blowing again!  This month, we’re looking at one of the most unexpected materials entering the wind energy sector: wood. Wind power is already a key driver of the clean energy transition. But the next wave of innovation is not only about producing more renewable electricity, it’s also about how we design, transport and build the infrastructure behind it. That’s where wooden wind towers come in. In Sweden, startup Modvion has built the world’s tallest wooden wind turbine tower: 105 meters high, supporting a 2 MW Vestas turbine and connected to the grid in late 2023. Made from engineered laminated wood and built in modular sections, this technology opens new possibilities for onshore wind: easier logistics, lighter structures, and a lower-impact construction model. Could engineered wood become one of the building blocks of next-generation wind power? Scroll the carousel and join the conversation.
