đ˘ New publication out! PathFinder has published a new document that describes in detail the methods and uncertainties of the pan-European forest maps produced within the project. Key issues to note: đ The accuracy is not the same everywhere, since some regions have very good data, while other areas do not. đł Basic attributes are mapped fairly well, but tree species are harder to predict. đşď¸ The maps tend to overestimate small forests and underestimate very large forests. đ In places where no ground data was available, the model used data from nearby countries. đźď¸ Some errors can look like map âartifactsâ due to satellite image differences and sudden changes in reference data. đ Read the full document here: https://lnkd.in/dvuXptJj đ°ď¸ PathFinder has released high-resolution, pan-European maps for 18 key forest attributes at 10-metre resolution tiles. The maps have been developed through a combination of earth observation and data from the National Forest Inventories of 14 countries. đ Explore our attributes maps here. The portal is still under development: https://lnkd.in/dd2c3QCx đ Congratulations to the authors: Jukka Miettinen, Johannes Breidenbach, Rasmus Astrup, JiĹĂ Fejfar, Christoph Fischer, ZsĂłfia Koma, Kari Korhonen, Daniel Moreno FernĂĄndez, Mari Myllymäki, Johannes Schumacher đŤ VTT - NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research - INIA - Czech Forestry Institute - Bundesforschungszentrum fĂźr Wald (BFW) - Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL - IGN - French Mapping Agency (Institut GĂŠographique National) - ThĂźnen Institute - Natural Resources Institute Finland / Luonnonvarakeskus đ˛#EUPathFinder #EUForestry #EUForestProjects #EUProjects #ForestResearch #SustainabilityScience
