We are very happy to share our latest Region Report! 💡 This edition - “Green Colonialism in Sápmi” - is an legal analysis exploring how 'green' energy projects in Norway, Sweden and Finland, including mining, railways and wind-energy fields, have damaged traditional Sámi lands (Sápmi) and cultural practices, and violated Sámi communities’ right to be consulted on such issues by their governments. This is a very valuable and well-researched contribution by Chloe Kihlman, Ronja Lamberg and Wilma Vestman, highlighting that even well-meaning environmental projects can cause significant damage and undermine national minority communities. They argue that a ‘just transition’ requires enforceable mechanisms to secure free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) and comprehensive Sámi participation. Many thanks to the authors for this excellent paper!
