🌡️ June 2026 was a hot month for Europe's land surfaces. The latest land surface temperature anomaly map from EUMETSAT’s Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Applications (EUMETSAT LSA SAF) - built on more than 20 years of Meteosat Second Generation data - shows land in central France running up to 7°C above the 2004–2025 average. Unlike air temperature, land surface temperature reflects how hot the ground, vegetation and buildings actually get - making it a useful indicator of the severity of heat.
