💨 Methane emissions account for one fifth of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. More and more European countries regulate methane emissions. But Romania faces a critical challenge to enforce these regulations. Nine months after the EU deadline, the country still lacks adequate penalty rules for methane regulation compliance. A new analysis from EUKI project I-MER shows why current draft provisions can not close gaps in penalty rules. Compliance costs often clearly exceed maximum penalty costs.
