The first edition of the Ingenias LATAM Award recognised four outstanding women inventors from Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, whose projects span agricultural biotechnology, health, industrial design and the creative industries. Among them, Silvana Herrera Leiva (Chile), inventor of a sensory band that helps visually impaired people detect obstacles in their field of vision. Silvana recently took part in the Young Leadership Programme under the IP Alliance, where she shared her journey, highlighting that courage, persistence and learning from failure are part of innovation. Awards like Ingenias matter. They make women innovators visible and inspire new generations, especially when women represent just 18.2% of inventors in international patent applications (WIPI 2026). Inclusion in innovation means unlocking talent, resilience and sustainable growth, a key focus of the EUIPO´s international IP Alliance on Inclusiveness, which strengthens opportunities for under represented groups across IP ecosystems. Together with other IP offices and organisations around the globe, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering women and girls to access the innovation and creative economy inclusively, and to achieve their professional aspirations through the effective use of IP systems. 🔗 Read the joint message of IP offices worldwide: https://lnkd.in/ew_c4U-3 #WomenAndIP
