From trophies and mascots to the ball, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s biggest sporting and IP events. FIFA holds more than 200 EU trade marks and has filed more than 400 EU design applications at the EUIPO, including: 🔹The World Cup trophy, protected through different trade mark formats, including 3D and figurative marks. 🔹Tournament logos from past and current editions. 🔹Official mascots. 🔹Historic World Cup posters from some of the earliest tournaments. 🔹The former FIFA World Cup trophy, also protected internationally through the EUIPO system. Brands also play a central role with Adidas and Nike leading the ranking when it comes to football shirts, kits of the World Cup protected through EU trade marks and EU designs. Adidas also owns the “Trionda” name and design registrations. The IP game is on! Good luck to all. More about how IP shapes sport: https://lnkd.in/egYMTPEC
