An interesting bit of engineering history below - I like that as a company with this sort of heritage, Mott MacDonald has decided a few years ago to persistently dig around in the archives and bring up stories from the past. ******************************************** This week marks 99 years since John Vernon Bartlett was born. He wasn’t just leading Mott, Hay and Anderson or the ICE, he reshaped tunnelling with the bentonite shield. A simple idea with a massive impact on safety, cost and what engineers could take on. That first test at New Cross kicked off something much bigger. You can still see the influence in Mott MacDonald rail and metro projects across the world. Interested to see how that thinking still carries through today? https://mottm.ac/3S5rNTB
