Before Ronaldinho, CR7, Zidane and Messi, there was a rare genius hewn from the soils of Ghana, West Africa. He was called Abedi Ayew and nicknamed "Pele". To me, he remains A GOAT (Africa's Greatest Of All Time). He was born to play soccer and he pulled off the most audacious feats with those nimble feet of his. He habitually danced past battalions of defenders and left goalkeepers hapless. His touches were magical, his skills other-worldly and his goals surreal. At the height of his wizardry he left the world spell-bound at the 1992 AFCON in Senegal, scoring some miraculous goals. That last-minute goal against Zambia; Abedi darting through the midfield, hurtling past 3 Zambian tackles, feinting on the edge of the 18 and firing a left-footed rocket into the right corner of the goal! Against Congo; an astonishing low shot from an acute angle after dribbling past three players from the corner line....what a goal! Then, in the Semis against Nigeria; the little man zigzagging his way to meet a curled corner kick with a glancing header that angled diagonally from the one end of the goal mouth and flew into the top corner of the other. Astonishing! Such was this enigma; a gift from the Olympus of soccer to Africa. The inimitable soccer maestro, Abedi Ayew Pele!
