Today, these materials are largely fossil-based. Through the EU-supported PROTEUS CBE JU project, Essity is evaluating a renewable alternative: bio-based super absorbents derived from sustainably harvested brown macroalgae (๐‘ณ๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’“๐’Š๐’‚ ๐’‰๐’š๐’‘๐’†๐’“๐’ƒ๐’๐’“๐’†๐’‚). Instead of relying on fossil resources, this innovation explores how algae - a fast-growing, underutilized natural resource - can be transformed into high-performance absorbent materials. The impact is significant.
