The North and Baltic Seas are the driving force behind Europe’s clean energy transition, with countries along their shores working together to deliver a secure, connected, and resilient future. Norway has a rich industrial heritage shaped by natural resources and engineering innovation. Now many of these industries are looking for ways to decarbonize their operations. One flagship project is Hywind Tampen, the largest floating offshore wind farm in the world with technology supplied by Siemens Gamesa. It supplies around 35% of the electricity demand of the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas platforms in the North Sea. This pioneering technology will not only shape Norway’s renewable energy landscape but also lay the groundwork for global advancements in floating wind technology. What would accelerate floating offshore wind in Norway faster: clearer auction frameworks, a firm project pipeline, risk‑sharing mechanisms or dedicated support focused on first‑of‑a‑kind commercial scale projects? This is post 4 of 6 in our “Energy from the Seas” series. Next, follow Grzegorz Nalezyty to hear about Poland - the Baltic perspective on acceleration and enabling conditions.
